Citizens Advice Bureau (Cab) chiefs are to be asked to give assurances that a North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) grant would be spent in the district - or they will not receive the cash.

Nigel Lloyd, who represents North Walsham, tabled a question to last night’s full council meeting asking how NNDC could assure its council tax payers that its funding for the Cab would be spent locally.

Mr Lloyd’s question follows the merger last year of Citizens Advice North Norfolk (Cann) into a Norfolk Cab.

The move sparked fears that NNDC funding, and other monies raised locally for Cann, might be put into a central pot and spent anywhere within the Norfolk Cab area.

Cabinet member Trevor Ivory said NNDC officers would be talking to chiefs of Cann and Holt Cab to try and reach an agreement that funding from NNDC must be ringfenced to be spent within the district.

And unless such an agreement was reached, NNDC would not transfer the money.

NNDC has earmarked £51,000 for Cann, and £15,000 for Holt Cab in its 2013-2014 budget.
