North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) will be hanging on to an unwanted annexe at its Cromer headquarters site for a little longer, after offering the building to any community organisation which could take it away.

In December NNDC invited organisations to get in touch if they were interested in the sectional, cement-rendered, timber-framed structure.

The second-hand annexe was put up in 2005-2006 to house the new Victory Housing Trust before its move to a purpose-built North Walsham headquarters

This week NNDC chief executive Sheila Oxtoby said a number of community groups had expressed an interest, but the council would be keeping the annexe for use during the forthcoming May county council elections.

It would then be needed to temporarily house some staff and for storage while NNDC's reception area was refurbished over the summer.

She hoped that it might be possible to negotiate a cheaper deal for its removal while contractors were on site carrying out the redecoration work.
