Basil Abbott, manager of Diss Museum, is organising a remembrance based on an Edwardian theme to take place in Diss Market Place and at the war memorial at St Mary’s Church in Mount Street on June 1, 2014.

The event will feature a performance from the Norwich Early Dance Group in the Market Place with a theme of vanishing England swept away by the war.

They will be joined by actors in Edwardian costume, while the museum in The Shambles will also be open and staging First World exhibitions.

An art exhibition will also be held at the back of St Mary’s Church with refreshments and tea in St Mary’s Hall afterwards.

The event could also see the unveiling of an extra 99 names of soldiers killed in action who had not been included in the list on the memorial.

Diss mayor Graham Minshull said there were a number of service personnel who had served in the world wars, but also conflicts since then, such as the Suez and Falklands, but had not been included for any reason, including that their families were too upset to ask them to be included.
