The memory of a popular Norfolk bike enthusiast will be at the forefront of peoples’ minds when vehicles queue up to participate in a memorial car and motorbike rally this weekend.

On Sunday, a convoy of vehicles will set off from outside Bunwell Village Hall in Norwich Road heading for Hemsby to remember former Wymondham High School pupil Daniel Greaves who died aged 20 when his bike was involved in a collision with a car in Silfield Road, Wymondham on November 3, 2008.

Money raised will go to the intensive care unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where Daniel was treated following the accident and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Co-organiser Mark Ward, 26, said an appeal through the social networking website Facebook had received 160 responses from people interested in taking part in the rally, though he was not certain whether they would all come.

He added: “We are getting an awful lot of interest. It is one of those things that I am hoping is going to be really big, but I am not getting my hopes up.”

The rally was first held four years and the inspiration for the latest adventure came from Daniel’s sister Chelsea, 20, who approached Mr Ward with the idea and is helping with the organisation.

The rally will end in Hemsby because the seaside resort was one of Daniel’s favourite destinations.

Daniel, who was known to his friends as Danny, was badly injured following the crash and taken initially to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s, but despite their best efforts medical staff could not save Danny.
