A Norfolk orchestra is marking its 40th anniversary with a special concert at St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich.
The Academy of St Thomas will hold its celebratory concert on Saturday. The performance will be conducted by Christopher Adey with Piers Lane on the piano.
The musical programme will include Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, and Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major.
AST began in the summer of 1973 when Ivan Cane was asked to put on a concert at St Thomas Church, in Earlham Road, Norwich.
It began as a baroque string group, and then grew to incorporate wind, brass and percussion.
AST has performed more than 180 concerts and over the last four decades more than 300 musicians have been involved in the orchestra.
The orchestra currently promotes three concerts per year in the eastern region and its repertoire ranges from baroque chamber works to 20th century masterpieces.
• The 40th Anniversary Concert is this Saturday at 7.30pm. Tickets can be bought from Prelude Records on 01603 628319.
