A Norfolk high school DT technician and rock band member yesterday admitted a string of sex offences involving two teenage girls and possessing 192 indecent images of children.
Andrew Morton, who worked at Swaffham Hamond’s High School, pleaded guilty at Norwich Crown Court to 25 charges including meeting a child following sexual grooming as well as five charges of sexual activity with the same victim.
The 29-year-old, of Longfields, Swaffham, was a member of the Swaffham and Fakenham rock band Midnight Circus. The group has since replaced him.
Morton also admitted possessing 192 indecent images of children and 14 counts of taking his own indecent images of the victim and making an indecent video of the girl.
He also admitted attempting to engage another young girl in sexual activity and showing an indecent photo of a child and possessing extreme porn.
Police first arrested Morton on May 18, as well as another man who was released without charge, and the school told parents in its July newsletter that two members of staff, neither of whom were teachers, had been suspended pending investigations.
Morton’s case was adjourned for reports and he was remanded in custody.
A statement released after the case from Hamond’s school said: “We are working closely with Norfolk Constabulary and the county council to ensure we follow all of the correct procedures.
“However, as this matter is ongoing, we are not in a position to comment further at this time. We can confirm that both the defendant and another non-teaching member of staff remain suspended, pending an investigation.”
A statement from the county council said: “We are working with both Norfolk Constabulary and the school to ensure all the correct procedures are followed. As this matter is ongoing, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
