A Norfolk energy firm has ploughed £1m of fresh investment into a new lifting division in a bid to provide a more comprehensive service to the energy sector.
Fendercare Marine, based at Seething, is broadening its offering with the launch of Fendercare Marine Equipment and Lifting Service, which will use hydraulic equipment and winches to support oil and gas and renewable energy sectors.
The new division will begin trading on January 2 and comes after the firm committed £1m in July to establish its energy support base at Cobholm.
The company, which employs 250 staff and reported a turnover of £135m last year, will use the new investment to bring together its hardware sales and service divisions, including its surface preparation wing Blastgreen and load and stress monitoring service, Strainstall Marine.
Meanwhile, the company is currently working with contacts in Vienna to secure deals with emergency services across Europe after providing animal rescue harnesses to fire services in the UK.
Eric Plane, managing director of Fendercare, said: “We viewed this as an opportunity to bring together our marine equipment and lifting divisions to provide an even more responsive service to our customers.
“The success of our Great Yarmouth base has exceeded our expectations, so this move means we can help even more of our offshore marine customers and our onshore industrial customers.
“Not only that, but it also demonstrates our long term commitment to East Anglia, generating additional employment and revenue to the Great Yarmouth economy.
“Fendercare Marine is celebrating 25 years trading in 2013 and we are confident that this venture will be another great milestone in our history.”
Fendercare’s lifting services were established in 2010 and provides to support to both the marine sector and onshore industrial companies throughout the UK.
Nick Connolly, general manager of the Great Yarmouth base, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for Fendercare Marine to build on its first class reputation by further expanding its lifting equipment business. The Great Yarmouth site gives us versatility and flexibility to ensure we can meet our customer’s needs.”
