A Norfolk charity is encouraging people to spread goodwill this season by extending their gift list to include a young person or child in need.

The Benjamin Foundation is appealing for donations of either a stocking-filler or a shoe box of basic essentials, which they will then give to a child or young person experiencing a challenging time this Christmas.

Diana Clarke, Chairman of The Benjamin Foundation’s board of trustees, said: “Christmas should be a joyous occasion but for many families, children and young people things are very different. We work with a range of people who are facing either a tough time or a crisis from parents facing the harsh reality of having to choose whether to buy food or warm their home, through to young people who sadly don’t have a safe place to live.

“In the past people have filled their boxes with things like toiletries, chocolates, gloves and memory sticks, usually coming to about £15 in value. Any gift that people can donate will be most gratefully received.”

The charity will distribute any filled shoe boxes received via seven of their centres which provide accommodation and support for a total of 90 children and young people.

Donated stocking filler gifts can be supplied either wrapped or unwrapped, with an indication on the outside of what the item is and if it is for a female or male child. These will be given to children most in need, age appropriate to the gift, via the charity’s team of Parent Support Advisors.

To pledge a donation of a stocking-filler gift or a shoe box, contact Wendy Jeary at The Benjamin Foundation before Friday, November 30 on 01692 500 999 or wendy.jeary@benjaminfoundation.co.uk.

All donations will need to be received at the charity’s office in North Walsham by Wednesday, December 12.
