From Norwich to New York- how two friends and team mates have made a kick start in their football ambitions in USA.

Luke Winter, from Thorpe St Andrew and John Carrier, from Cromer, have crossed the pond to play football for the Chattanooga Football Club (CFC) in Tennessee.

Luke, 22, started playing for Chattanooga in 2011 after he went to a university close to the city.

He said: “I knew the team was good from previous years, I worked my way into the line up my second year and that is also when john joined the team.”

The club, who are regional champions, recently played in a National Premier Soccer League championship match in New York.

Despite a goal scored by Thorpe’s very own Luke Winter, the team’s dreams were dashed by opposing side- the New York Red Bulls’ U-23 squad.

Luke said: “Watching the MLS (Major Soccer League) game was great, getting to play in a nice stadium with top facilities and looking around New York was great with the team, but it was amazing to have the Chattahooligans(CFC fan base) ride up on a bus and watch the game.

“As well, a few of the players including me had parents there which was extra special, shame we didn’t win the game and national title but we had a fantastic season and many more highs than lows to remember.”

Luke has just finished his masters and his current goal is to begin his coaching career after taking a job at Bryan College, a university near Chattanooga.

The star added: “As for the future I just want to stay involved with soccer and keep enjoying it as a player and a coach.”

  • Luke Winter is the 2014 US Open Cup Player of the 2nd Round, 2014 All-NPSL Striker, 2012 AAC Championship MVP, 2012 TWC Athletic Director's Award winner for transforming his college team, 2011 NAIA Div 2 leading goal-scorer. He has set records (3 consecutive league hat tricks) and made soccer history by scoring the game-winning goal that ensured his team was the first to beat a pro side in the US Open Cup. He is one hell of a soccer player, with a natural instinct for the game, and he is poster boy material, good with the fans, great with the kids. He is your next David Beckham, and he should be on the England National Team. https:www.youtube.comwatch?v=U1mOhjCbqgc https:www.youtube.comwatch?v=zuCWgt3lbj4
