A Norfolk teacher and his colleague will be running this year's Virgin London Marathon in memory of his brother, who died from meningitis aged only 19.

Aylsham High School teachers Danny Sweatman and Jayne Hudson will be running the 26-mile course on April 30 in memory of Mr Sweatman's brother Ryan, who died from meningococcal septicaemia on January 6, 2012, and all money raised will go to the Meningitis Research Foundation.

The fundraisers are using social networking site Twitter to raise awareness of their campaign at #rememberryan.

As well as losing Ryan, who was studying sport at Sheffield Hallam University, Mr Sweatman's youngest brother Joe died from pneumococcal meningitis in 1991, aged just seven weeks old.

Mr Sweatman's family, friends and colleagues continue to raise money for Meningitis Research Foundation to support the introduction of the meningococcal group B (MenB) vaccine after the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said it wasn't cost effective in July 2013.

Since the beginning of 2012, the fundraising total has reached an incredible £56,000 and Danny and Jayne are hoping to add another £7,000 by organising a meningitis awareness week at the school, beginning on Monday, February 10.

The week will include numerous events that both staff and pupils can get involved in, from a staff arm- wrestling tournament to sponge the teacher and a mufti day with a special 'purple' theme.

Shirley Gieron, head of helpline and membership at the foundation, will also be speaking to staff and pupils about the importance of awareness and the positive impact the continued fundraising has on supporting the implementation of the vaccination for MenB.

The week will conclude with the school hosting a Valentine Charity Ball on February 14.

Simon Woodbridge will be hosting the event with Rob Chandler from Radio Norwich.

The evening runs from 7pm until midnight and a £25 ticket includes a welcome drink, hog roast, ice cream, chocolate fountain and a raffle ticket.

There will be alcoholic/soft drinks available from the bar plus a disco, entertainment, live bands, a photo booth, a raffle and auction. It is certainly an evening not to be missed.

Tickets cost £25 or £250 for a table of 10.
