Norfolk police name body found in a lake near King’s Lynn as missing Downham Market man Barry Birch

Mr Birch, 44, was last seen on December 28. Tonight police said his next of kin have been informed.
A post mortem was carried out earlier today on the the body of Mr Birch, which was found in a flooded former quarry between King’s Lynn and Downham Market.
It revealed the cause of death to be drowning, although further toxicology tests are being carried out.
Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and the cordon at the scene has been lifted. A file is being prepared for HM Coroner and an inquest will open in due course.
Officers were called to the gravel pit, near the A10 at Tottenhill, on Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters used a boat to recover the body, which had earlier been reported floating in the lake.
