Around 200 Conservative Party supporters headed for Berkshire on Friday, September 22 for a festival with a twist.

The Big Tent Ideas Fest, a cross between Hay-on-Wye and the arts and culture section of Latitude, took place on the estate of Betfair founder Mark Davies and featured talks from philosopher Roger Scrunton and Norwich North MP Chloe Smith.

Created by Mid-Norfolk MP George Freeman, the event followed the success of Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn and Clive Lewis at Glastonbury earlier in the summer.

Upon revealing initial plans for the festival, Mr Freeman said: “Why is it just the left who have all the fun in politics?”

A team of more than 20 people helped to organise the invitation-only event, over seven weeks.

A total of £25,000 was raised to fund the festival.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Freeman said: “It was a small start, but I’ve been blown away by the positive feedback from everyone.”
