A Norfolk hit and run victim has spoken of the psychological torment he has suffered since the crash which has left him unable to sleep and signed off work.

Steve Davis, 39, of Skelton Road, Diss, was knocked down by a car as he walked close to the junction of Pursehouse Way and Vinces Road, in Diss, shortly after 5pm on November 1.

However, he said instead of helping him the female driver then left the scene.

The father-of-two suffered muscle damage around his right knee and tissue damage to his legs which has left him on crutches, but he has also suffered psychological damage in the aftermath of the incident and taken four weeks sick leave from his job as a salesman for Portal Voice and Data, in Norwich.

He said: 'Imagine being on a rollercoaster ride and that ride not stopping because that is what it feels like for me at the moment. I have no idea how long this is going to last.'

Mr Davis was walking his Newfoundland dog Bella along Vinces Road away from the junction with Victoria Road and was in the process of crossing Pursehouse Way.

He said the car came speeding down Vinces Road from the opposite direction towards Victoria Road then turned right into Pursehouse Way, hitting Mr Davis and leaving him with injuries, though the dog escaped unharmed.

'When I was walking up the road, I saw lots of traffic queueing up.

'I looked behind me and there were no cars looking to turn left or right.

'Next thing I know a car has turned into the road and crashed straight into me.

'Next thing I know the woman driver has opened her window and looked at me. I think I screamed at her and she then left,' Mr Davis said.

He added the crash had affected his home life with his wife Alison, 36 and children Danni, 14 and Ryan, 13 and said he often broke down in tears.

He said the nightmares meant he had to sleep downstairs and said a child could have been crossing the road at the time. There were a number of eyewitnesses to the incident.

'This has just absolutely done me in more worse than you can imagine.

'I can't believe that somebody has just run me down and left me there.

'I fear what would have happened if the car was going faster?' Mr Davis added.

A Norfolk police spokesman confirmed police and ambulance crews attended the incident, which was still being investigated.
