A singing bishop revealed his “Wild Thing” past as he burst into song during a service at Cromer on Sunday.

The Bishop of Lynn, the Rt Rev Jonathan Meyrick, surprised the Cromer Parish Church congregation by breaking into song at the start of a sermon.

Bishop Jonathan, who is trying to get around every parish in his area, sang Words by the Bee Gees.

Earlier, while being interviewed by Cromer vicar the Rev Canon David Court, he said that he had a “brush with fame” just over a decade ago. He said he appeared on ITV’s Stars in Their Eyes, dressed as Reg Presley and singing Wild Thing by The Troggs.

He added that, “perhaps understandably”, he did not win the contest because he was overshadowed by a scantily-clad Kate Bush impersonator.

Bishop Jonathan, former Dean of Exeter Cathedral, became Bishop of Lynn in 2011.
