Scouts at Holt are the first good cause to benefit from a new community-led scheme launched by Budgens of Holt.

Managing director Michael Baker launched the Love Local scheme to work with the community in supporting groups and good causes.

It will see points gained from those who present a Love Local card when they shop at the store, turned into funding for local community projects.

Each time a shopper presents their Love Local card at the till in store, a percentage of the money they spend will be contributed to the project.

New local projects will then be nominated for support by shoppers, allowing the store team to work with more community groups across the year.

Scout leader Erika Sperry said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the first cause in our community to benefit from Love Local.

“Finding funding at the moment is tough, but the £260 we will receive from Love Local will make a significant difference to our group. Camping and experiencing the outdoor is a key part of being a scout and with two new six-man tents, we’ll be able to take all your young people on a summer camp, so we’re urging local people to get involved and support us.”

The success of Love Local and the speed at which the money is raised for the local causes will be directly related to the number of people who sign up and remember to present their Love Local card in store when they shop. To sign up, simply fill in a form in store.

Mr Baker said: “We have a great community here in Holt. Love Local is another way we can recognise the support of local people for our business by giving back to the community.

“The success of Love Local will be determined by the people of Holt who sign up and use their card. If it’s a success, we’ll look to make it a permanent scheme.”

  • I don't understand this 'Love Local' card. Why does it need to go through the tills? Is it because it's like a clubcard that stores your shopping habits on computers? Couldn't Budgens just donate X amount every month from profits and do away with the faff? Or do they need this marketing to try and convince people they don't need a Thaxters or Greshams supermarket?
