Former deputy mayor Richard Sims was appointed the civic role and will wear the ceremonial chain for the year with Brenda West as his deputy.

Mr Sims is a former special constable and owns a foot care business in the town.

Mrs Belson thanked all those that had helped and supported her and highlighted the work that went into the transfer control of the town’s CCTV cameras to the town council.

The meeting last night also celebrated the appointment of new town clerk Nick Clancy who stepped into the role in March when former clerk Margaret Foster retired after 40 years.
