New look for Filby Post Office

Filby’s new look Post Office and Stores was opened to delighted customers and staff at a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Great Yarmouth MP Brandon Lewis visited the village yesterday (Friday) to do the honours and officially open the new style open-plan branch, which has been modernised as part of a three year investment programme.

The Main Road business has been overhauled with new lighting and flooring, the removal of an old porch and the installation of a crucial third counter for the post office.

Subpostmaster David Thompson has run Filby Post Office since 1963.

His son Adrian, who now manages the branch, said: “We have changed the layout of the office to create modern open-plan environment. The office now looks more spacious as we have made better use of the space for our post office and convenience store.

“The office is now modern, bright and crisp. Customers and staff all agree that it looks amazing. My 83-year-old father is absolutely thrilled at how his post office looks.

“He really likes the new modern look.”

The father/son team managed to secure £46,500 of Post Office funding towards the refurbishment - the first major overhaul to the building since 1963.

Mr Lewis was “delighted” to open the new look branch and praised Adrian and David for investing in the branch.

“Filby Post office is an essential part of the community,” he added.

“It shows just how community minded David and his son are. They received funding from the Post Office to refurbish and supplemented this with their own money to make a huge investment into their business.”

The post office is open seven days a week from 6am - 9pm.
