Fears that proposals for an 11-home development in Croxton, near Thetford, would damage the character of the village have been dismissed by Breckland planning committee.

Applicants Bennett Plc applied for planning permission to replace two bungalows on The Street in the south of the village with a mix of one and two-storey homes. A previous application for 14 homes was refused last December.

Robert King, chairman of Croxton Parish Council, told councillors yesterday the proposals would destroy the character of the south entrance to the village, and raised concerns about new access points of vehicles.

However, planning officer Nick Moys said: “It achieves a reasonably effective use of the site but at the same time responds to the particular character of the village. Our conclusion is that the scheme is sympathetic to the character of the area.”

Councillors approved the application by eight votes to one.
