Hundreds of parishioners flocked to Happisburgh church at the weekend for the institution and induction of new rector the Rev Catherine Dobson.

She takes over a coastal group of parishes, which includes Waxham, Sea Palling, Hempstead, Lessingham, Eccles, Happisburgh, Walcott, Bacton, Witton and Ridlington.

The ceremony to welcome her to the new patch was conducted by the Bishop of Thetford the Rt Rev Alan Winton, and the Archdeacon of Norfolk, the Venerable Steven Betts.

Mrs Dobson was born in Blofield and was educated at Norwich High School when she had ambitions of becoming a nurse but worked at Norwich Union. She married husband Stephen in 1992 and they have two children.

Mrs Dobson was ordained at Peterborough Cathedral in 2009 and was assistant curate in that area, while also working with various charities.

Her hobbies - shared with her husband - are walking and bird watching.

She thanked those who attended her induction and those who arrived by coach from Rothwell, her previous parish.

“Everyone made me feel comfortable and I just love being back in Norfolk again,” she added.
