New hygge trend proves popular on trendy north Norfolk coast

It’s one of the trendiest parts of the region so it’s no surprise that a new trend that’s popular with ‘hipster’ communities across the country has proved a success on the north Norfolk coast.
Hygge, a Danish word which has no literal translation into English, roughly translates to cosiness and an appreciation of life’s simple pleasures.
It can take many forms and is rapidly growing in popularity amongst ‘hipster’ communities nationwide.
And hundreds of members of that demographic gathered at Deepdale Farm, Burnham Deepdale over the weekend to enjoy the party.
The Deepdale Hygge, which took place between Friday, March 24 and Sunday, March 26 at Deepdale Backpackers and Camping, was so popular, it’s set to become an annual event.
The hygge also included the Deepdale spring market with Dalegate Market hosting more than 50 Norfolk artisans and producers in two large marquees. Visitors could also enjoy the beach hut ‘Pop-Up Shops’ and many outside stalls, watch chainsaw carving, learn about local wildlife & attractions, or have a go on a Segway.
The celebration of life’s simple pleasures also featured live music, story telling, star gazing, various wildlife activities, cycling, walking and running.
Jason Borthwick, owner of Deepdale Backpackers, said: “The weather was amazing and I’m very pleased how it went, considering it was only our second year, and the first held on a non-bank holiday weekend.
“A couple of hundred people were camping on the site for the hygge and we must have had a couple of thousand people visiting over the weekend.
“Customers loved the hygge and there was a wonderful atmosphere. It was so successful it will become a permanent fixture on the calendar.
“We’ve already got people from this event booked in for the Deepdale festival at the end of September. They want to come back for the live music and spoken word events.
“Looking at it overall, it was a huge pat on the back for us that more than 50 artisans and companies took the risk and gave their support to a new event.”
