A man says that after the fifth collision on the same stretch of the A10 this year – with a lorry ending up in his garden – “enough is enough”.

Steve Shipp, from Littleport, says although recovery of the latest lorry is now under way, with temporary closure of the A10 near Southery whilst the vehicle is removed, he wants urgent action.

“I’m going the whole hog now,” he said. “There will be petitions, letters to highways and I shall be attending as many council meetings that it takes.

“I’m going to make this big news and make stuff happen.”

Photos taken by Mr Shipp show how close the lorry came to a gas tank in his garden – he says everyone was lucky no one was injured.

Mr Shipp’s home on the Lynn Road and that of his neighbour’s have become the focus of numerous accidents and in June he reported what he said was the fourth such accident in just four weeks.

In June a lorry crashed and overturned in between his and the garden of Waterside Lodge and Paws Doggy Day Care on Lynn Road.

Two weeks earlier two cars “ended up in our next door neighbour’s garden as well,” he said.

About a month earlier another lorry went off in the exact same place, and two months before there was even an incident involving a tanker.

“The driver felt like he was going off the side of the road because of how much it dips,” Mr Shipp added.

“He got out of his vehicle to check but then the tanker then fell down the verge.”

He is now pushing for something to be done about the state of the road.

“For that amount of accidents to happen in such a short space of time, it really says something about the state of the road.

“In the four years we have lived here, there have been 10 or 12 accidents. The council has been talking about improving it for some time but nothing ever seems to materialise.

“Initially, they should cut the banks and the overgrown roadsides. Ideally, they’d put some sort of speed warning in place at both ends of the corner – that would really help.

“But more importantly something needs doing with the condition of the road; because at the moment any traffic tips to one side.”
