A great-grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday with cake, cards, friends, family - and entertainment from Elvis.

The King visited Myra Martin at her Great Yarmouth care home where he performed a series of showstopping hits for the enthralled centenarian, her guests and fellow residents.

Staff at Marine Court in North Drive organised the birthday bash where friends, family and well wishers - including Great Yarmouth Mayor John Burroughs and his wife Jenny - enjoyed cake, champagne and fish and chips before Elvis entered the building for some rock and roll fun.

Mrs Martin’s daughter Julie Stephenson said the party was “absolutely brilliant”.

“Elvis had been in the home twice before at celebrations and she thoroughly enjoyed it. He was excellent and the home are so good, they did put on a really nice day for mum,” she added.

“It was a lovely day to celebrate her milestone, we just hope that we have a lot more.”

Mrs Martin, a great grandmother of six, was born in Great Yarmouth and lived in Royal Avenue for most of her married life, where she raised her children Tony, Ian and Julie.

When her husband Maurice died, she and the family moved in with her mother in Beatty Road, where she stayed until moving to Marine Court three years ago.

Nina Patel, owner of the home, said all the residents had enjoyed marking Mrs Martin’s milestone last week, which was her first 100th birthday celebration since taking over the running of the home eight years ago.

She added: “Myra is a lovely lady, she’s bubbly, very polite and gets on with everyone. She’s a member of the family as it’s one big family in here.”

And her celebrations continued over the weekend when she enjoyed a family get together at the Burlington Palm Hotel.
