Breakdancers from across the country are heading to Norwich this weekend to battle it out for a place in an international competition.
Head spins, windmills, swipes, air flares and other impressive breakdancing power moves will be seen at Open, in Norwich, on Sunday as more than 50 performers are set to take to the stage for the 2013 R16 UK National Championships.
R16, the Korea 2013 World B-Boy Masters Championship, is set to take place in Seoul in July, and Sunday’s event in Norwich will see breakdancers compete to represent the UK at the European qualifiers in Lille in France.
The winner of the European heat will then go through to the world championship.
Breakdancer Jack Thistleton, 28 and who lives in Pottergate, Norwich, and is one of the Force 10 breakdancing crew, is among the people who have helped organise the event at Open.
He said: “R16 is an international event that happens in South Korea. Norwich is lucky enough to be hosting the UK leg of the qualifiers.
“It is the first time they have had a qualifier in the UK.
“I think there’s going to be at least eight crews (teams of breakdancers) competing with up to eight people in each crew, and lots of people will also be coming to breakdance just for the fun of it too.”
He added: “It’s going to be a really great event.
“It’s a chance to experience B-boys doing what they do best, and the competition is going to be hot because the R16 is a big title. It will be great for people to come and watch, and we have lots of DJs coming to the event.”
Among the DJs at Sunday’s event will be DJ Format and DJ Timber.
The world finals take place in Seoul, South Korea, on July 6.
Force 10 and Sureshot Productions present the 2013 R16 UK National Championships at Open, in Bank Plain, Norwich, on Sunday from 2pm until midnight with a break between 6pm and 8pm.
