Hundreds of people who were keen for work and training attended a jobs fair at Norwich City Football Club yesterday.

The event, organised by Archant Norfolk, publishers of the EDP, brought together employers, training companies, further education providers and the jobseekers who need their support.

Jobs24 events co-ordinator Alison White said: “All the standholders reported great feedback from the event, and more than 600 people attended in just the first four hours of the day.”

Among the exhibitors was Peterson SBS, which recruits for jobs in oil and gas.

Its representatives, Zoe Sinclair and Louise Millar, flew from Aberdeen to be at the event.

Zoe said: “It’s been non-stop and very good. We have five bases in the UK, including Great Yarmouth, and we have been advertising for 37 live vacancies across the UK for material controllers. These positions are open to everyone.”

Meanwhile, Anne Clarke Associates, which is based in Downham Market but has a training facility in Taverham, near Norwich, had training courses available for people wishing to get forklift and HGV licences.

Its business development adviser, Giles Hennebry, said it was a very popular event and they had been able to help many people.

“We can help anyone who is currently unemployed and offer a wide range of fully funded courses,” he said.

Katie Yarham, from Gardline, based in Yarmouth, which sponsored the event, also attended.

She said that they had more than 60 speculative emails for applications just in the morning, and had been taking CVs throughout the event.

“There was a very good vibe on the day,” she added.

Another exhibitor, Westminster Homecare, based off Aylsham Road in Norwich, offers jobs and training, and care co-ordinator Patricia Parfitt said a full list of people had signed up for their help.

“The feedback from people has been very good,” she said.

City College Norwich was also at the event, offering education and training.

Previous jobs fairs have been held at the Forum in Norwich city centre.
