Training shorts signed by former boxing champions Muhammad Ali and George Foreman will be among famous sporting memorabilia auctioned off for charity.
The six items will be sold at North Walsham’s Black Swan pub on Saturday, March 16, from 8.30pm, in aid of the multiple sclerosis charity MS-UK.
Friends Martin Hicks, Martin Church and Paul Gibbons, all from North Walsham, hope to raise more than £10,000 combined for MS-UK by running the London Marathon on April 21.
Proceeds from the charity auction will go towards their final amount.
Other items on offer will include a framed Norwich City shirt signed by the current team; an RGA active framed MS triathlon top signed by Jenson Button; an England rugby union shirt worn by player Ben Youngs, signed by the current squad; and Ben Youngs’ matching shorts, signed by the player himself.
Mr Hicks, 36, owner of a North Walsham manufacturing firm, said: “I have run the London Marathon once before in 2005 in four hours, 24 minutes for a multiple sclerosis charity. My aunt suffers from MS, so it is quite close to my heart.
“When you have MS you don’t know what you are up against. It is not a nice way to live your life.”
He added that this year’s marathon would be his last and he hoped to run it in three hours, 30 minutes.
Auction tickets cost £5 and can be bought by ringing Mr Hicks on 07810 437057 or from the Black Swan. Alternatively they can be bought on the door on the night.
