The 25 singers of Village Harmony includes members from the US, England, Wales, Italy, Switzerland and Canada and will come to St James Church on Saturday July 21.

The concert will feature traditional three-part songs from Georgia and Corsica, dance songs from South Africa, American gospel and early music pieces.

A spokesman said: “Georgian and Corsican three-voiced polyphonic folk-singing both include brusque, mountain-defying work songs, historical ballad songs and lyric love songs. Both genres feature unusual, dissonant harmonies and biting, deeply sonorous vocal timbres.

“South Africa has a particularly powerful and appealing choral singing movement, with rich, mellifluous harmonies and wonderfully syncopated rhythms.”

The concert starts at 7pm, and tickets are available on the door for £8, or £5 for concessions. For further information about the ensemble, visit www.villageharmony.org
