Motorists in Lowestoft are being advised that the A12 Bascule Bridge will be closed for one night’s “essential maintenance work” overnight on Monday (March 25) to help keep the structure operating safely and reliably.
The work will take place from 8pm and is expected to be complete by 6am on Tuesday, March 26.
While work is carried out, the bridge will be closed in both directions and the following diversions will be in place:
❏ Northbound local traffic will be diverted via the A146, turning right onto the A1117, and following Normanston Drive and St Peters Street to rejoin the A12 at the second roundabout on St Peter’s Street. Southbound traffic will follow the same route in the opposite direction.
❏ National traffic heading north will follow the diversion via the A1117 to rejoin the A12 at the Tesco roundabout. Southbound traffic will use the same diversion in the opposite direction.
A free bus service around the diversion route will be provided for pedestrians wishing to cross the bridge during the closures.
Police in Norwich have launched an investigation after a woman claimed in a tweet she had knocked a cyclist off their bike.
