Treacherous road conditions in Norwich city centre this lunchtime left many motorists struggling to drive their cars uphill.

One of the worst spots was near the Bell Hotel where several drivers could not manoeuvre their cars up Farmers’ Avenue, with several vehicles skidding downhill. One motorist gave up trying to ascend the hill and drove along Castle Meadow, which is restricted to buses and taxis, instead.

Police are advising motorists to drive with care today after a spate of crashes on the county’s roads.

Drivers are also being reminded to remove all snow from their vehicles before setting off and to drive with their lights on.

  • Why are we nearly always unprepared in the city? This smacks of incompetence yet again. Can we please learn lessons this time round?
