A woman was taken to hospital this morning after her car overturned into a water-filled ditch between King’s Lynn and Wisbech.

Two ambulance crews, fire crews and the fire service rescue unit were all called to Gravel Bank, at St Johns Fen End, just before 8am.

A Toyota Rav4 was on its roof in the dyke and the woman driver was freed by the fire service before being taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Gravel Bank was closed from the Tilney St Lawrence approach while the emergency services worked to recover the vehicle.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “The woman was taken via land ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She remained completely awake throughout the incident and her injuries are not thought to be critical.”
