Wells Lifeboat crew’s annual open day went smoothly – despite crew members being called to a rescue mission just hours before it started.
A man and a woman were rescued after their yacht suffered engine failure, three miles east of Wells harbour, before 9am.
By midday, the crew members were entertaining families at the lifeboat house, where people witnessed “man overboard” procedures and demonstrations from the new RNLI Wells lifeguards.
Amy Emerson, the wife of crew member Martin Emerson, took part in a six-mile row on a rowing machine, replicating the average distance crewmen used to row to a rescue in the 1800s, to raise money for the Wells RNLI’s campaign to raise £250,000 towards a new lifeboat.
