With Union Jacks waving, the town’s Market Place was transformed by the community as they tucked into food and raised a glass to the Queen while singing along with performer Barry Lee, the Smokehouse Blue Marching Jazz Band and Aylsham Band.

Jasmine Kelly, 13 from Aylsham, was also celebrating her birthday at the street party, along with 10 of her friends and 38 family and friends. She said; “It has been really nice because there are so many people here.”

Mike Bush, chairman of the town’s jubilee committee, helped organise the event and said after the downpour on Sunday there had been a few worried faces.

He said: “We are absolutely over the moon especially now the sun has come out. We were very concerned on Sunday with all the rain. We were out here on Sunday night trying to set the places in the rain. It has all been worth it though.”

He said they estimated at least 1,000 people had attended, with 1,120 booked to attend and only a few tables left empty.

Mr Bush added: I have to thank everyone on the committee who helped and Barry Lee, an Aylsham man himself, for providing the music.”
