Rail users on the Norwich-to-London line are facing more misery this afternoon after a broken down freight train blocked the London-bound line.

In a statement on its website, Greater Anglia said there were delays between Hatfield Peverel and Chelmsford.

It said: “Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 40 mins at short notice. Disruption is expected until 15:30 29/08.”

It gave the following customer advice: “Owing to a broken down freight train between Hatfield Peverel and Chelmsford, the London bound line is blocked. Train services are able to pass the broken down train using the Country bound line.

“A rescue locomotive is now on site to recover this broken down freight train, and it is anticipated to be moved by 14:30hrs after all the necessary safety checks have been done.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding whilst this broken down freight train is recovered.”

The latest problems came after over-running engineering works at Ipswich caused major problems on Tuesday.
