Money to be raised in memory of Thorpe St Andrew tutor
Submitted - July 2012
Money is being raised in memory of a Thorpe St Andrew man who died unexpectedly from a heart attack last month, aged just 47.
Andy Likins, born and bred in Thorpe, died suddenly on Thursday, June 14.
Mr Likins had a six-year-old daughter, Pippa, and was well known locally in the metalwork industry, having worked for firms such as Heinz and Fabcon Engineering before he retrained as a tutor. Since 2009 he had worked as a technical instructor at East Anglian Group Industrial Training (EAGIT), based at the industrial estate next to Norwich International Airport.
His ex-partner, Jill Mackman, who lives in Pound Lane in Thorpe, said: “We were still very close, he was a wonderful father and the outpourings of tributes I’ve had from people has been incredible.”
Mr Likins was also a keen motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed taking his Honda Fireblade on track days to socialise with the local biker community.
Ms Mackman added: “He was here on the Wednesday night and as fit as a fiddle, but on Thursday he had chest pains and then a massive heart attack. He was still a young man so it was shocking.”
Now Mr Likins’ family and friends are raising funds for four charities in his memory.
The charities are those that he either regularly supported or that his loved ones feel he would be glad to support. Breakthrough Breast cancer was chosen in memory of Mr Likins’ mother Pauline, children’s bereavement charity Nelson’s Journey was chosen for its support of his daughter and also chosen were Barnardos and East Anglian Air Ambulance, as they were both charities he was fond of.
Mr Likins’ funeral service is being held at St Faith’s Crematorium at 2pm on Tuesday, July 10. Only family flowers are asked for at the funeral, but anyone who wishes to donate to the fund set up in memory of Mr Likins can go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AndyLikinsMemorial
