The aroma of culinary delights from across the globe will fill a historic building in King’s Lynn when an international food festival returns to West Norfolk.

Hundreds are expected to flock to Around the World in 80 Dishes at the Corn Exchange to tickle their tastebuds on dishes from across the globe.

The event offers competitions and demonstrations to satisfy every palette and provide the whole family with a chance to experience culinary delights from a host of cultures.

The popular annual event will see local businesses, community groups and people taking along a sample of their national dishes to share with others at the festival on Sunday, January 20. Food to sample will include delights from Australia, the Philippines, Italy, China, Eastern Europe and Brazil and there will also be competitions held during the day.

Marie Connell, one of the organisers, said the event was a “fantastic way” for people to experience different tastes they may not have come across before.

She added there will be 28 stands which is more than ever before and she hopes it will be as well-attended as it had been in previous years.

She is also currently looking for someone who knows how to do the Haka, which is a traditional Maori dance but more commonly known as being performed by the New Zealand rugby team before their matches.

Around the World in 80 Dishes started off being held at Lynnsport, in North Lynn, but had to move to the Corn Exchange as it continued to grow in popularity.

Residents will also have the chance to learn about waste and recycling initiatives and the Blendavenda, a bicycle which makes smoothies when it is pedalled, at the event as well as live music and dancing. Admission to the event, which will run from 1.30pm to 4pm, and the food samples are both free. The event is being sponsored by Freebridge Community Housing.
