Men’s Shed group continues to grow in Beccles as members appeal for help finding forever home

Just a month after forming, the Beccles Men’s Shed group now has over a dozen regular members and a temporary place to meet.
And as the group continues looking for its forever home, members have been busy designing a logo and drafting a constitution.
Tony Rainbird launched the group after holding a gathering at Beccles Library back in August to gauge the interest of the town.
The idea is to provide a place for men - and women - to meet, work and socialise.
Mr Rainbird said: “A Men’s Shed offers mental health well-being to people in Beccles. It is well known that men do not make friends easily and retirement, unemployment, bereavement and loneliness can all be a start into depression. Although we are the Beccles Men’s Shed, our shed door is not closed to any ladies wishing to join too.
“Already members have said how much they look forward to our weekly meetings.”
The group currently meets once a week, but Mr Rainbird said the aim is to boost that up to two weekdays and a Saturday morning once the group has grown.
He said they have also formed a strong committee and members have a range of skills to offer.
He added: “As our journey continues, I’m delighted that we have secured some temporary accommodation so we have somewhere to get started. We are actively seeking a proper forever home a workshop or shed where we can focus on woodworking or whatever that hobby might be. A place we can build benches, bringing us all together as a group. Placing our search area one mile radius of Beccles we are asking businesses and farmers if they have a suitable building with power and toilet facilities where we can build the group.”
Members are also appealing for donations of woodworking tools or benches to help them get started.
