Fakenham Town Council is now accepting nominations for the annual Fakenham Mayor’s Community Volunteer Award.

Councillor Janet Holdom said: “I’m really trying to encourage people to get enthusiastic about this award and to invigorate it a bit.

“There are a lot of people in Fakenham who do many great things in a modest way and the people around them know what they do but nobody else does.

“I feel it is important to single these people out to the general public because they inspire people.

“People do get inspired by other people’s selfless good deeds because it makes people look at themselves and think they ought to be doing something like that and this knock-on effect is better for everyone in the town.

“And people often do great things without much thanks or recognition because not enough people know about what they are doing.”

The town council is looking for people who have given their services voluntarily and nominees must live and provide their voluntary work in Fakenham.

They may, for example, have helped in a youth club, local church, residential or nursing home, given personal home help to an elderly or sick person, a local club or supported any other organisation within the town.

The winner will be chosen by Fakenham Town Council and will be presented with a shield at the annual town meeting, on April 20.

● To nominate someone, write to Fakenham Town Council, Fakenham Connect, Oak Street, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 9DY, e mail info@fakenhamtowncouncil.co.uk or telephone 01328 853653. The deadline for entries is March 31.
