A CLUTCH of new council properties look set to be built across three villages after plans were given the nod by town hall bosses.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council's cabinet agreed to 12 properties going up at three 'in fill' sites in Martham, Caister and Bradwell to kick start the authority's programme of new council house building.

The new homes will be the first the council has built in more than 20 years.

Speaking at Wednesday's cabinet meeting, council leader Trevor Wainwright welcomed the 1.25m development.

He said: 'I think it's a really positive report and let's just hope it's the start of something we can continue. At the end of the day we want to see these built as quick as we can so we can get people housed.'

Members heard that a development agent would be taken on to manage the project and it was hoped to have people moving into the homes by May 2014.

The plans will now go to Tuesday's full council meeting where a final decision will be made.
