Karl Smitt, of Park Close, Wymondham, admitted the attempted robbery of TG Food and Wine store in Town Green, on October 27, last year.

He also admitted having a bladed weapon on the same date.

His case was adjourned for reports including a psychiatric report, to a date to be fixed. Smitt was remanded in custody.

As reported at the time, the shop worker managed to fight off the robbery attempt.

Despite being threatened with a knife to hand over cash from the till, the shopworker pushed Smitt out of the store.

He said at first he had not been sure if Smitt was serious about the robbery attempt but said: “I asked him if he was joking with me but then realised he was serious.”

He managed to push him from the shop but suffered a minor cut to his hand.
