A major route on the edge of Downham Market has re-opened in both directions following a crash involving a lorry and a car.
The A1122 was closed for almost two hours between the A10 junction and the B1507 Downham Road junction following the crash at 12.45pm.
Fire crews from Downham Market, Kings Lynn, Wisbech and Swaffham were called to the scene, near Denver Playing Field, after the crash between a Volvo lorry and grey Renault Megane.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to release a man, who was the only person in the car, before making the vehicles and scene safe and assisting paramedics and police officers.
Traffic is being diverted through Downham Market and past the high school for those wishing to use the A10 to travel to King’s Lynn or Cambridge or the A1122 to travel to Swaffham.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene. A spokesman said: “Dr Neil Berry and critical care paramedic Neil Flowers were flown to the scene by Captain Dave Watkins and landed by the side of the A1122.
“The man was treated at the scene for head and arm injuries before he was taken to hospital in King’s Lynn by land, escorted by the air ambulance medical team. His condition is described as stable.”
It comes two days after a teenager died after he was involved in a collision with a car close to the Bexwell Roundabout, near Downham Market.
Police said that a blue VW Sharan was travelling along the road when it was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian at around 12.20am on Saturday morning.
The 17-year-old, who has not yet been named, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn but he died a short time later.
There are still bunches of flowers and tributes marking the spot where the crash happened, which is a mile from where today’s crash happened.
Nearly 3,000 people have supported a Facebook campaign demanding safety improvements on the A47 near Dereham set up after the latest fatal crash.
