The victim, in his 50s, suffered singeing after the gang surrounded him at Ormesby Service Station and asked for cigarettes, before setting light to a small area of his hair.

The attack is among a string of anti-social behaviour incidents in Ormesby and Hemsby, which police have pledged to crack down on by stepping up their patrols in the two communities.

In another attack a water bomb was thrown into the New Sage takeaway in Ormesby, soaking a customer. There was then a dispute between those in the takeaway and three youths.

These attacks were followed by three incidents in The Glebe area of Hemsby, including the theft of a letterbox from a fence and reports of a group of youths damaging fencing and for sale signs.

In the third incident a man in his 20s was surrounded by a group of youths and subjected to verbal abuse, spat on and then assaulted. The youths then chased him and assaulted the victim again.

Three teenage boys – two aged 15 and one aged 16 - have been arrested and bailed to return to police on May 10 or 11.

But police would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened, and are appealing for information about all the incidents, which happened throughout April.

And officers have now made tackling anti-social behaviour their priority.

PC Jon Silom said: “We have already made arrests but we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen these incidents.

“We also want to raise awareness with parents and carers as clearly this anti-social behaviour is causing distress to residents and we will be taking action against those involved.”

The fire attack happened at around 5.40pm on April 1; the water bomb incident around 5pm on April 4; the fence damage and letter box theft on April 9 and 10 and the assault happened at around 9pm on April 10.

Anyone with information should call PC Silom on 101.
