An investigation has been launched tonight after a man died following a diving incident off the coast of Lowestoft.
Police were contacted around 3.30pm this afternoon to reports that a diver had died and that he was being airlifted to the James Paget University Hospital at Gorleston.
There were reports that a second diver was en route via a lifeboat to hospital. The second diver was brought ashore at Gorleston and was also taken to the James Paget where he was medically assessed. He is likely to be discharged this evening.
Officers attended Hamilton Docks in Lowestoft to meet the dive boat, that docked around 6.30pm, and enquiries are being made into exactly what happened.
Initially it appears there were seven people on board the boat at the time of the incident and that it was a recreational trip, that had set off from Lowestoft this morning.
The diver that died is not thought to be local and, his death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Police are working with the coastguard and liaising with the Health and Safety Executive following the incident.
