Officers from British Transport Police were called to the scene of the incident at the crossing in Keswick Road just after 10am.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was killed after being hit by the 9.40am Norwich to Cambridge train.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Rail lines were closed in both directions following the incident and a replacement bus service was arranged by train operator Greater Anglia.

Anthony Wickham, 79, of Keswick Road said: “There was a build up of traffic outside and the air ambulance landed.

“I have lived here 44 years and this has happened around four times.”
