Man arrested at King’s Lynn Town match on suspicion of race offence

A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing “a racially aggravated offence” at the game between King’s Lynn and Coalville at The Walks last month.

The man, believed to be in his 20s and from the Lynn area, was arrested at the ground last night, as the Linnets lost 3-1 to Stamford.

Today police said he had been released on bail pending further enquiries until 15 January 2013.

Trouble flared at the Coalville Game, on October 9, after 20 Coalville fans were refused entry to The Walks.

After the match, which Lynn won 3-1, there was an “incident of disorder” involving a number of Coalville players and a group of home fans. Police escorted members of the away team to their dressing room.

After the game, several Coalville town players posted messages on the social networking website Twitter condemning the behaviour of King’s Lynn Town fans.

One claimed Coalville players were verbally abused, punched and spat at and called for the next meeting between the sides to be played behind closed doors.

Another claimed he had been racially abused.

There were ugly scenes when lynn and Coalville met at The Walks in an FA Vase semi-final game in April.

Police made two arrests after missiles were thrown and officers moved in to separate opposing fans.
