The comedian – and Canaries fan – had donated the scarf and a coat to Age UK as part of its Spread the Warmth campaign and it was due to go on sale today.

But on Thursday morning the item went missing from the charity’s shop on Westgate in the town.

Shepherd Gandi, 41, of Percival Street, West Town, Peterborough, has been charged with theft by finding.

The 2004/5 Premiership season scarf was worth £29, according to the charge against the defendant.

Gandi, who was arrested on Friday, made his first appearance at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and will return to the court later in the month to enter his plea.
