A man is receiving medical treatment after being detained by police in Loddon.

Officers were called to Beck Way at around 7pm yesterday to reports that a man in distress had entered a home carrying a gardening knife which he had found outside the property and caused damage.

He was subsequently reported knocking on other doors in the street.

Police were dispatched to the area and a 39-year-old man was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of burglary. He was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a number of minor cuts and remains in hospital at this time.

No-one else was injured during the incident.

Chief Inspector Stuart Armes, South Norfolk Policing Commander, said: “This was serious incident involving a vulnerable male. Local residents acted quickly and calmly enabling the man to be quickly detained by officers on scene. Enquiries remain on-going.”
