Major King’s Lynn road to close for resurfacing

Hardwick Road and Scania Way will each shut for a week for resurfacing works as part of major Sainsbury’s and Tesco redevelopment

A major route into King’s Lynn will be closed overnight for roadworks which will last for three weeks.

Hardwick Road will be closed for resurfacing between 8pm and 6am from Monday for a week before Scania Way is also closed from Monday, October 22, for a week.

The roads will not be closed together and the work is being carried out as part of the major redevelopment of the new Sainsbury’s and Tesco stores.

Contractors for Norfolk County Council will be carrying out the work and a statement from the authority said the closures would “avoid major disruption.”

Surfacing work will begin on Hardwick Road at 8pm on Monday and is expected to move to Scania Way the following Monday, depending on progress.

The length of time the roads are closed during the project will also depend on the progress of the scheme.

Diversions will be clearly indicated and access to Campbell’s Meadow, Hansa Road and the south part of Scania Way will be maintained with traffic lights to control vehicles.

During the resurfacing works the detector loops that control the permanent traffic lights will also be lost, meaning the lights will not work at full efficiency. Once the resurfacing has been completed and new loops installed the lights will return to normal.

Specific issues arising from these roadworks can be raised by calling 0344 800 8009 or emailing
