We may not have played them in the World Cup, but England got a chance to take on Germany this weekend as women's cricket teams from the two countries went head to head.
The rain held off just long enough for Topcroft women's cricket team to finish batting against the German All Stars in a 20-over match.
The Germans scored 123 while Topcroft scored 78-8, losing the game by 45 runs.
It was something of a prestige fixture for the south Norfolk team, who only joined the women's league in April and have only played three competitive matches.
But they jumped at the chance of hosting Germany's finest female cricket players during their mini tour of the area, and take part in their first international match.
Topcroft captain Amy Winter, 22, said: 'We were praying that the rain would hold off and it did. 'Some of us where a bit nervous but a few of our team went over to watch the Germans play in Lowestoft on Friday night and told us how nice they all were, which made us a bit calmer. They had similar skills to some of the other teams we have been playing so it is really good practice for the league.
'Their bowlers were particularly good whereas we are more of an all-rounder team. That can be good for us some times but it can also be a challenge to decide where people should play.
'But despite losing everyone gave it their best and I'm really pleased with our performance. It was a great experience for us.'
The Topcroft team, who range in age from 14 to their 50s, presented the All Stars with a Topcroft cricket cap to take home as a souvenir.
The roles were also reversed in the kitchen with one of the husbands serving the after match refreshments.
Miss Winter added: 'Like us they just came here to have a good time and our focus as a team is so make sure that everyone has a go and enjoys it, although it is good for morale if we get a win. We wanted to show them some good English hospitality and it was lovely to be able to spend time with them after the game.'
Stephanie Frohnmayer, captain of the German All Stars, said: 'It was an awesome game and the spirit was really good between the two teams.
'In Germany we don't have facilities like this so it is a great opportunity for us to play on a grass pitch.
'We came here last year and the Topcroft girls didn't exist then but it's awesome to play other girls teams because cricket is still developing in Germany. The level of cricket was really good and they have a couple of really good bowlers who scared us.'
The Topcroft women won their first competitive match against Winterton last Sunday, and are part of the Thetford Gramar School Women's Cricket League, run by the Norfolk Cricket Board.
