The Queen of Hearts, a white rabbit and a Cheshire cat could be spotted heading towards Toftwood as a celebratory event was held for those who are deaf and blind.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party-themed event was hosted by Sense at Toftwood village hall to bring together deaf and blind people supported by the charity in Norfolk and Suffolk.

There were prizes for the best hat, a cake-making competition, music entertainment and awards of achievement were presented.

Lorraine Cornwall, area manager for Sense, said: “It’s the first one we’ve done - we wanted to get everyone together so have can have a bit of fun and meet other people.

“Deaf and blind people can be isolated so it’s a chance for them to share together and have fun.”

About 120 people attended Saturday’s event, including friends and family. It was held in Toftwood as there is a residential service next door to the village hall and a number of supported live-in homes within the community.
