Tony Cousins, 44, of London Road South, had denied four charges of unlawful wounding, but was found guilty by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court in April of three of the offences and not guilty of the remaining charge.

Sentencing was adjourned until last week.

During Cousins’ trial, the court heard that he and a 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had kicked open the front door of a house in Grosvenor Road, Kirkley, on August 24 last year.

Gerard Renouf, prosecuting, said that after hearing the door being smashed open, some of the young people in the house ran out of the bedroom and attempted to hide in other rooms.

The youth then stabbed three young men with a kitchen knife while Cousins brandished a machete, he said.

One of the victims told the court he suffered knife wounds to his forearm, shoulder and leg.

Mr Renouf said some of the victims’ injuries required hospital treatment. “A lot of blood was spilled,” he added.

Sentencing Cousins, Judge John Devaux said he and the 17-year-old had forced their way into the house and there had been young children in the property at the time.

Kevin McCarthy, for Cousins, said his client believed he had been wrongly convicted and maintained that he had not been armed with a weapon.
