“We love you Lowestoft” echoed out around the town centre this morning (Sunday) as fans of the Trawlerboys saluted their team.

A special promotion parade through Lowestoft town centre saw the club’s success in reaching Conference league football for the first time honoured by supporters, Waveney District Council, the Marina Theatre, The Journal and Eastern Daily Press.

About 40 players, management and directors waved to the fans – some who had gathered at the club’s Crown Meadow ground – and saluted their support as an open-top bus carried them through the town.

There was loud applause amid the cries of “we are going up” and “oh when the Blues go marching in,” which reverberated around the town’s main shopping area as the bus arrived at Lowestoft town centre.

And then, as the players, management and directors got off the bus and walked to the Marina Theatre there were lots of cheers, applause and songs to honour their fantastic achievements.

They were greeted at the theatre by the new Mayor of Lowestoft Roger Bellham, Waveney MP Peter Aldous and Waveney District Council leader Colin Law, before the Blues stepped out onto the theatre balcony to take the plaudits of a good-sized crowd.

Praising the fans, and those who had turned out, Lowestoft Town chairman Gary Keyzor said: “Thank you very much for your support this season, It has been absolutely immense.”

A civic reception inside the theatre – provided by the Marina Theatre and Waveney District Council – was then held.

Lowestoft clinched promotion to the Conference North Division for the first time in their history after beating AFC Hornchurch 3-0 in front of 2,700 fans at Crown Meadow last month.
